Since DVD players have the capability to play music CDs, as well as video DVDs, many people are using their video surround sound system to listen to music as well as to watch movies. With this in mind, the NAD engineering team have developed and implemented a design philosophy we call “Music First” throughout our Theatre Series audio/video components.

The same rigorous high fidelity standards NAD has developed for two channel music playback are now applied to the 5.1 channel audio soundtracks. With the T550 we have taken this concept one step further and included a separate signal path for two channel playback of CD in addition to the 5.1 decoder (Dolby Digital) DVD signal path. In fact the two-channel (matrix) output of the T550 is virtually identical to that found in our highly acclaimed CD players.

The T550’s video performance is also up to NAD’s high standards. The T550’s fourth generation 10 bit video DAC has both the speed and capacity to accurately decode all the video information present on every DVD disc.
